We are seeking an experienced and dependable HVAC Technician to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex HVAC and critical facility systems within a mission-critical environment. This role is responsible for maintaining optimal performance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, utility, and environmental systems that support facility operations and uptime requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of commercial and industrial HVAC systems, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and experience working within critical infrastructure or high-availability environments. This position also plays a key role in mentoring junior technicians and supporting emergency response activities. This position is 100% on site, multiple shifts available.
Clearance Requirements
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including:
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain:
- HSPD-12 Clearance
- Secret Clearance
- Active HSPD-12 and Secret Clearance preferred
License & Certification Requirements
- Current DC Journeyman License OR VMET Certification required
- Candidates without a Journeyman License must obtain one within 30 days of employment
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC equipment and systems
- Operate and maintain critical engineering systems including HVAC, CRAC units, boilers, chillers, VAV systems, IFUs, utility systems, and fire/life safety systems
- Monitor and control building equipment using Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Conduct routine inspections of engineering systems and maintain operational logs
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance while supporting building efficiency and energy management goals
- Operate and maintain gas-fired steam boilers
- Utilize test equipment and diagnostic tools to evaluate system performance and analyze results
- Record and report faults, deficiencies, and unusual operating conditions
- Respond to emergency situations and perform corrective actions necessary to protect personnel, property, and operations
- Disable and re-arm fire alarm panels when required
- Support maintenance activities in mission-critical environments with minimal supervision
- Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced HVAC Technicians
- Follow manufacturer specifications, operating manuals, engineering diagrams, and industry best practices during all maintenance and repair activities
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 6 years of experience working with complex HVAC systems and equipment
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Chillers
- Boilers
- Package units
- VAV systems
- Direct digital controls (DDC)
- Pneumatic and automated control systems
- CRAC units
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Fire and life safety systems
- Experience supporting mission-critical facilities or data center environments preferred
- Completion of an HVAC technical training program, vocational school, or recognized apprenticeship program preferred
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced critical operations environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly
- Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance
- Work at heights up to 60 feet using ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, and aerial lifts
- Perform repetitive physical tasks including climbing, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, pushing, pulling, and overhead reaching
- Ability to safely use ladders while carrying tools and equipment
- Must possess good vision (corrected vision acceptable), color recognition, and the ability to hear and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to recognize system abnormalities and identify operational issues quickly
- Ability to apply logical troubleshooting methods and interpret technical information

Pay Range: Hourly $40.00 to $55.00
